Wow! It has been awhile.

July brought Comic-Con International 2008 to San Diego, California. Five glorious days filled with art, film, fans, students, books, contacts, toys, costumes, overbearing advertising campaigns, bad food, enthusiastic art appreciators, hope, excitement and an overall positive energy.

July also introduced a new direction in storytelling for me. First unveiled at the Gallery Nucleus book signing for Counterweight, and later at CCI 2008, "Porthole" embodies ten years of written and painted concepts through film. Produced by Chiodo Bros. Productions. Inc., Porthole, as it stands now, exists as a short film, or more appropriately a teaser for a much broader concept. Plans for the first chapter are currently under way.

Here is a still from the film.

Hello Everyone!

At long last, Counterweight, The Art and Concepts of Rick O'Brien has finally arrived. For those in and around Los Angeles it can be found at the following businesses that have Design Studio Press accounts: Art Center College of Design Bookstrore, Swain's Art Supply, Hennessey & Engalls, Kinokuniya, Meltdown, Art Supply Warehouse, Sterling Art, Gnomon Bookstore, World Supply, Vroman's, and Nucleus. If any other locations are brought to my attention I'll let you know. Online, Counterweight can be purchased directly through the publisher at designstudiopress.com. As for any locals interested in purchasing a book, it might be a good idea to contact the store to check on availability, as I don't have a confirmed delivery schedule for local accounts. Any news and updates on book signings and art showings will be posted in the comings weeks. Much thanks and fortitude.

Here are a few low resolution spreads from the book. I hope you enjoy them.
